Investigated the recent emergence of serious game research trends. Conducted the analysis of a serious game case study focused on a successful project. Developed the success model for application in South Korea.

Investigated the positive effects of gamification based on success case analysis. Defined concepts, categorization, and evaluations of gamification for the Korean government and public institutions. Proposed directions for future development.

Presence, Privacy Concern and LBS

The purpose of current project is to investigate the effects of social presence on privacy concern in location based social network service (LB-SNS). We use Social Presence Theory as a theoretical framework, and seek to examine the potential negative effects of social presence, which was not much considered crucial in the previous literature.

Change in State Suspicion

My project has 3 experiments in an investigation of the overall neural activity of change in state suspicion  (CISS). Instant messaging between partners, fNIRS measurement of state suspicion, and an experiment conducted online with authentic and fake phishing websites.

Pilot’s Perceptions of Autonomous Systems

We investigated U.S. Army helicopter pilots’ perceptions of autonomous systems. The goal is to help the VTD identify core considerations related to the integration of the Artificial Intelligence system they are developing into future helicopters.

Biometrics

In a collaboration with electrical engineering and computer science post-doc and faculty, this project measures brain patterns elicited from mathematics and image-matching n-back tasks to identify  individuals on the basis of their “brain-print.” The study required participants to come into the lab multiple times to participate in EEG and fNIRS data collection.

A Study of Danmaku: Social Presence, Transportation to Narrative, Attention, Enjoyment and Cognitive Workload

Project intends to examine people’s Danmaku video (videos with overlaid comments) watching experiences, with particular focus on their feeling of co-viewing with other people, transportation into the narrative, attention, enjoyment and cognitive workload.

Environmental News & Proximity

This project investigates if the proximity of the news topic is related to brain activity. It is expected that people are more likely to use different brain regions when they are exposed to news from geographically closer location compared to farther locations.

Investigation of Teen’s Perception & Credibility in Virtual Network

This study introduces a deviant group among youth that constantly consumes and shares information on virtual social networks in the cyberspace. this study will show the characteristics of this new type of group within virtual social networks using an empirical research approach. Also, youth who are in the early stages of brain development are likely to show brain plasticity within the framework of the theory of mind and feel unmediated social presence while they use mediated communication tools. It may result confusion on their perception for information credibility and also it cause another confusion on their decision making process by persuasive information from social media.

Meditation

The meditation project involves using fNIRS to detect differences in brain state of individuals meditating. A collaboration with Hamilton State College faculty and students, the meditation experiment is aimed at assessing the effects of meditative states on the brain. Longitudinal studies with vulnerable populations such as trauma victims, veterans, and other local individuals is part of future work.

Virtual Reality and Phenomenology

Recently, virtual reality become to be reissued by the development of Oculus Rift. However, applications of virtual reality are just brought from existing programs for 2D display. I am seeking a new approach to the design of virtual reality with phenomenology.
